Wildlife tours
Walk on the wide side. Located on the grounds of Piedras
y Olas Hotel & Resort, Stones & Waves Veterinary Clinic and
Wildlife Center is the first of its kind in Nicaragua. With the assistance
of dedicated veterinarians and volunteer veterinary nurses and interns,
our staff, who represent various universities around the world, provides
a wide range of animal rescue, animal healthcare, rehabilitation, and
wildlife services and experiences.
Take a guided tour of our resident animals – three species of
monkeys, the crested caracara, pisote, peccary, raccoon, waterfowl,
cats and dogs. The majority of these animals were abandoned or abused
by humans who had taken them temporarily as pets and were later unable
to care for them. For physical and/or emotional reasons these animals
cannot be released, as they are tame and unable to survive in the wild.
All animals that cannot be released play an important role in the ongoing
development of wildlife conservation education programs for local children
and adults, international school groups, travelers and social organizations.
Stones & Waves Veterinary Clinic hosts monthly fundraisers at different
venues in San Juan del Sur. These events are co-sponsored by DHL, Delta
Air Lines as well as local restaurants and businesses. Contact the clinic
to find out about the next event.

The scholarship students of the foundation act as hosts, servers and activity
leaders for the event. In this way, the students learn about giving back
to the community. The Ancianos enjoy games music, dancing, tasty food
